Goodbye 2020. Hello 2021!
A new year is upon us with hopefully good things to come.
However, let’s throw it back to 2020 and wrap up the year with some highlights. 2020 was not exactly the year I was expecting it to be. Many fun events were cancelled or shifted to virtual. It is weird to think back to January and February of 2020 and how different life was before we were wearing masks and limiting how many people are allowed in a store at one time. It is just crazy!
But I did have some good moments throughout the year!
I got back into my reading mode and read a total of 30 books with a reading goal of 15 books. Here were a few of my favourites:
This was a long waited book in The Twilight Saga fandom. As a fandom, we always thought this book would forever live on Stephenie Meyer’s shelf but it was finally published in 2020, about twelve years later. It also sparked me to finally finishing the series. My review of Midnight Sun alongside my Twilight Saga story can be found here.
Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side
Since I discovered this book about ten or so years ago, it is still a favourite. I am glad I finally read the sequel to it that has been on my shelf for some time. I love a good vampire story! My review of this book and the sequel can be found here.
Serpent and Dove
When I first heard of this book at the end of last year or beginning of this one, my interest was peaked. And now I finally caved and read the book which I really enjoyed and plan on reading the sequel sometime in the near future. My review of this book can be found here.
The last movie I saw in the theatres was Little Women (2019) in December of 2019. Thanks to streaming services, I was able to watch some of the films that were supposed to be released in theatres throughout the year or were out just as lockdown started so I was unable to see them. A few highlights were Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), Emma, Black Beauty, and Mulan. All I enjoyed and helped past the time when I needed it!
As for TV shows, the second season of His Dark Materials premiered on HBO and it is just as amazing as the first season! I really need to finish reading the book series one of these days. (Maybe before the third season is out?) However, I am just waiting for the second season of A Discovery of Witches which premieres on January 9th, 2021.
Originally, I had plans during the summer months to explore the local area where I live and in October for my birthday I was going to make a trip to Disneyland. That obviously did not happen which I am fine with because I still had a good summer and a great birthday!
For my birthday this year, I decided to travel to Forks, WA and visit the “Forever Twilight in Forks” Collection which has costumes and props from The Twilight Saga. It was a nice little trip out to my favourite part of Washington State. I have been a huge fan of the Olympic Peninsula since about 2012 when I had to make a powerpoint on it for my Earth and Space Science class! We also went to Ruby Beach where I saw a quiet little starfish hanging out on a log under the water. It was a great birthday!
Now looking towards 2021…
I am keeping my travel plans to almost non-existing due to still being in a pandemic. I have one trip in the planning stage for September time frame which I hope happens but we will see.
One of the things I want to work on in the new year is my cosplays. I recently got an upgrade to my Rey cosplay which I am excited to take pictures of. I am building the wardrobes of Bella Swan and Diana Bishop both inspired by their books, movies, and tv shows. This also leads me into wanting to take more photos and post more on my social media either of my cosplays or normal things. I love photography so I want to try and expand on it.
I also want to post more on my blog. In 2020, I felt like I made some progress but I want to do more. I have plans in using my blog as an extension for my cosplays, books, and other aspects of my life that I wish to share. I am always looking for ideas, so if you have some I would love to hear in the comments below.
(Also I would to hear your plans for the new year? Tell me in the comments below as well!)
Overall, I am ready for a new year even though I know things will not change automatically when the clock strikes midnight. But there is something about a brand new year to bring your spirits up a bit.
Wishing everyone a happy new year! Stay safe and healthy out there!
Lots of Love,
